BEDROOM INTERIOR DESIGN IDEAS FOR A BETTER NIGHT'S SLEEP

As hardworking adults, the least we deserve is a good night’s sleep, however for 30% of the population, this isn’t always the case. While your bedroom’s design won’t guarantee a great night’s sleep, creating the perfect oasis is a good place to start. Your bedroom should be calm, clutter-free and comforting so that you can easily drift off to sleep each night.

So with this in mind, we’ve put together some simple interior design tips to help you design your bedroom for a better night’s sleep.

Invest in a good mattress

It’s no secret that a great night’s sleep starts with the perfect mattress. When designing a room on a budget, there are definitely a few things you can compromise on, but comfort definitely shouldn’t be one of them. Falling asleep each night requires our bodies to feel totally relaxed and tossing and turning on a mattress that’s lumpy and bumpy or too soft or hard is far from ideal, so it’s time to begin the search for one that’s right for you. The best way to choose a mattress is definitely to try out a few so visit local companies and lie on them to find your ideal match. Once found, choose a strong yet stylish bed frame, which flawlessly complements your space.

Splurge on bedding

Your bed should be inviting; you should want to sink into its surroundings each night, so finding bedding, which you love is key. Soft sheets, breathable bedding and luxurious fabrics that are gentle on your skin will help you catch those zzzs. Make your bed inviting by finishing with plush cushions and throws for a chic and comfortable finish.

Create a reading corner

Should space allow it, create a little reading nook in your room. This cosy area will encourage you to sit with your feet up for a while each night, rather than sinking into bed and switching the TV on. There’s no doubt that reading a good book is the easiest way to switch off each night so carve out a little space fit for that purpose.

Keep it clear

Clutter in any room can be altogether distracting and never has this statement been more true than in the bedroom. Keep surfaces as free as possible, opting for finishing touches such as candles, books and lamps to add a touch of your personal style.

Choose low lighting

Bedside tables call for little limps to dimly illuminate your room. Choose these over harsh, fluorescent lights, which are better reserved for the office. Soft, mellow lighting just before bedtime will help your mind switch off and prepare for sleep. The lighting should be sufficient enough that you don’t need to put on the ‘big light’.

Keep colour calm

Soft, neutral colours or pastel tones are perfect for bedrooms. Harsh hues such as vivid reds will stir the senses and make it a little harder to wind down before sleep. Creams and soft neutrals infused with mauve purples or blush pinks are an easy way to inject a little colour into your bedroom, without going overboard. Look to Sandi style for perfect colour combos.
