Summer interior design tips

Here at Home and Contract Design, summer is definitely one of our favourite seasons. If, like us, you are keen to make the season last as long as possible, bringing a little bit of summer into your home is the perfect option.

But how do you do this without it looked dated by the time winter rolls around? Here, we share our top tips to help you get it just right.

Choose summery colours

There’s no hard and fast rule that dictates you can’t have bright colours in your home in winter, so we say add a splash of colour and embrace it! Opting for lighter hues has the ability to instantly transform a room. Softer colours are fresh and uplifting – an easy way to help you embrace the cheeriness of summer all year long. Pastel tones are perfect, creating a light and inviting atmosphere. Alternatively, opt for white skirting boards to instantly lift the mood of a room.

Embrace the great outdoors

By this, we mean introducing a little of the outside, inside. An easy way to add a summery feel to a room, is to fill it with greenery. This idea is perfect for a room that you use for relaxing in, such as a living room or conservatory. Opt for the low maintenance kind that retain their leafy green goodness year round.

Add some light

Unsurprisingly, adding extra light to a space is an easy yet effective way to make a room feel summery. Often, lighting is an afterthought, but in our opinion, you just can’t have too much of it. Stand alone floor lamps or table lights are great, but why not try to get a little more creative? Strings of bulbs or fairylights are really on trend and will also add a touch of romance to a room.

Accessories that evoke summer

Simply adding things which remind you of summer is sometimes all it takes. Whether that be a bold, bright cushion, a candle that diffuses a summer scent, or an ornament you picked up on your summer holidays, these things will easily keep the feeling of summer alive.
