SPRING HOME DECOR TRENDS

Jonathan Ryan Forde • Oct 03, 2017

Spring is the perfect time to update your home. Whether you'd like a complete transformation or to tweak a few areas, here we share 10 of the home decor trends making an impact this season.

1. Tropical paradise

Often trends from the fashion world cross over into interior design , one of which has made its way from the runway to our homes is tropical prints. The world of interior design is welcoming the great outdoors indoors, thanks to topical influences. From wallpapers to designer fabrics, expect pineapples, parrots and palm trees to make their way into a home near you.

2. Green with envy

It's no surprise that since Pantone named 'Greenery' its Colour of the Year for 2017, we're seeing it everywhere. From lime green to emerald, the hues are the perfect choice for your home, adorning everything from walls to finishing touches. According to Pantone, the colour is meant to represent refreshment and revitalisation, so it's the perfect choice for your home this spring.

3. Texture is key

At Home & Contract Design, we're massive fans of texture. It's the perfect way to add dimension to a room, instantly making an area more inviting. When it comes to adding texture, the key is to play around with materials. Simply adding a throw to a sofa gives it another dimension, or choose finishing touches in unexpected fabrics such as velvet, leather and silk.

4. Clashing prints

Prints play an important role in fashion and so their crossover to interior design was only a matter of time. When it comes to clashing prints, choosing patterns in the same colour scheme will avoid looking like a mishmash and the perfect way to make a subtle statement.

5. Muted tones

If the thought of introducing colour into your home sends you into a frenzy, don't panic! This season is all about muted tones. Let's hear it for the neutrals as whites, beiges, pale greys, camel, and blush pink offer a sense of calm.

6. Going geometric

Geometric shapes are set for success this spring and there's a multitude of ways to nail this look. Throw it back to the sixties for retro vibes, or keep things modern with contemporary patterns. From chequered rugs to intriguring wallpapers, do your maths and get it just right.

7. Light it up

Lighting is the ultimate accessory in your home and the perfect opportunity to show off your style. From statement dining room lighting, to quirky bedroom lamps, brighten up your home.

8. Bronzed beauty

Believe it or not, but bronze is a great way to instantly add warmth to a room. Complementing a multitude of decorating styles, bronze is the perfect finishing touch in the form of lighting and accessories, such as vases, lamps and decorative bowls.

9. Gorgeous grey

Grey tones reigned supreme last year and if you haven't tired of this look, the good news is that it's here to stay. Grey complements a whole host of colours but our favourite way to style it is with pops of colour. From mellow yellow to fuchsia pink, bright hues have the ability to add another dimension to your choice of grey tones.

10. Marvellous marble

No longer just confined to Pinterest, the marble trend is set to be huge this spring. Add a touch of luxury to your home and work with a neutral colour palette to make small rooms appear bigger. Instantly adding light to dark spaces and bringing freshness to a room, marble also effortlessly compliments the warmth of copper, so tick two trends off at once!
