Here at Home and Contract Design, we always get excited when Pantone announces its Colour Of The Year, and its offering for 2019 is no exception. ‘Living Coral’ is definitely a colour we can get onboard with. Described by Pantone as “An animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energises and enlivens with a softer edge”, we agree that it is bright, cheery and definitely uplifting.
It won’t come as a shock, that the hue is set to make an impact in the world of interior design this year. And while you probably won’t want to immediately change your entire home, if you are considering decorating in the near future, the hue is worth considering, for sure.
With the anticipated arrival of spring in a few weeks, we’re sure we’ll see it everywhere. From runways to high street stores, on our walls and cushions, there’s no getting away from Living Coral this year.
So if you’re ready to invite a strong force of colour into your home interior design in Northern Ireland, here’s how to use it…
Adorn your walls
Given that ‘Living Coral’ is such a vibrant, cheerful hue, it definitely deserves to take centre stage in your home and on your walls in the perfect place to start. But don’t panic… we’re not talking about headache inducing floor to ceiling block colour. Opt for patterned wallpaper, with a print that subtly embraces the hue for an easy way to get on board with this trend.
Combine with other colours
The great thing about ‘Living Coral’ is that it works with a wide choice of unexpected colour offerings. Use in conjunction with dark greys, navy or even a black colour palette for a contemporary approach. Alternatively, combine with fresh white or uplifting pastel hues for a beach house look.
Choose accessories
When it comes to soft furnishings, this hue really works well. From throws to patterned cushions, candles and artwork, add a pop of colour to any room in your home through your choice of accessories.
Use as an accent colour
One of our favourite ways to incorporate ‘Living coral’ into a home, is by making it an accent colour. Just make sure the colour doesn’t occupy more than 10% of a room. Furthermore, we definitely think it works best by grouping pieces in the hue close together, rather than scattered thoughtlessly throughout. This focuses the eye in one area, rather than having it dart to various corners of your room.
Pick a statement piece
We also love this option! Pick one statement piece in ‘Living coral’ and allow it to be the main attraction in a room. Opt for a unique floor lamp, piece of artwork or decorative accessory, guaranteed to bowl everyone over.
