TOP TRENDS FOR INTERIOR DESIGN IN BELFAST 2019

Here at Home and Contract Design, one of our favourite things about the arrival of a new year, is the whole new host of interior design trends that it brings with it. And thankfully, it looks like 2019 is set to be truly amazing. Whether you are moving into a new house, giving your home a makeover or re-doing one or two rooms, here, we round up the trends definitely worth considering this year.

Living coral

At the end of 2018, Pantone revealed its ‘Colour of the Year’ as ‘Living Coral’, a bright and cheerful peach tone, unlike its predecessor, ‘Ultra Violet’ which wasn’t as warmly welcomed in the world of interior design. The colour has already been gaining some traction in homeware collections, with accessories getting an infusion of the peachy hue. The colour proves its versatility in the home as it can be used in a variety of ways. Adorn your walls, use in perfect harmony with a complementary colour or as an accent colour, choose pretty accessories or a statement piece. The choice is yours.

Tidy interiors

It seems Marie Kondo is everywhere at the minute, which isn’t surprising given the success of her Netflix series. The Japanese organising consultant is bringing harmony to homes across the world, thanks to her tidying up techniques. If mess and disorganisation is getting you down, employing Marie’s techniques of only holding onto items which truly give you joy, and storing them in an easy-to-find manor, is restoring order to homes throughout the world. We predict that 2019 will be the year of tidy interiors and minimalistic chic.

Dark kitchens

While high gloss white has reigned supreme in recent years, that is set to change in 2019, with searches for black and navy kitchens up 93% in the past six months. The colour blue is one of the strongest design trends predicted this year, with everything from classic shaker-style kitchens to chic, modern minimal spaces getting the bold colour treatment. Whether it’s on your walls, floors or kitchen cabinets themselves, this trend definitely isn’t for the faint hearted. We have to say though, we love it!

Heavenly results

Other worldliness has been making its way into fashion prints recently, so it was only a matter of time before the trend made its way from runways and into our homes. When it comes to finishing touches, we’ll be searching the skies for inspiration and it’s definitely a lot more sophisticated than you might think. Chic astronomy and zodiac patterns, cosmic murals and star strewn accessories will effortlessly be infused throughout our homes’ design.

Under the sea

It’s true… inspiration definitely comes from the most unexpected places and this trend is no exception. Designers have taken a dive, with everything from scalloped furniture to fish scale tiles and wavy finishes giving us The Little Mermaid Vibes.

That 70’s show

We’re throwing in back to a bygone era, and in particular, the seventies. But don’t worry, garishness definitely isn’t the order of the day. Designers are taking what we loved about the seventies the most, and making it fit right in with modern day living. We’re talking about warm beige and rust hues, while retro fringing is definitely making a comeback, adorning everything from lamps to mirrors.
