After what can only be described as an abysmal winter, we have thankfully been granted a gracious spring. With the change in weather, the thoughts of our Belfast interior designers are turning to your garden and how to prepare it for summer. When it comes to our outdoor interior design projects, admittedly, it’s the chore many of us least enjoy. However, tackling your garden and restoring it now, will offer you months to soak up its beauty and revel in your hard work. And thankfully, with our top tips, getting it back to prime condition is easier than you might there. Here’s the lowdown on the jobs to take care of in you garden now.
Get down and dirty
The boring bit, but the chore which has the biggest impact, it’s time to tidy up. There’s no denying that our gardens take a bit of a battering during winter, and this one was particularly bad. Dirt and rubbish will have accumulated and moss appears as if from nowhere. It’s time to don those gloves and get busy. Tackle weather-beaten decking by scrubbing it with a cleaning agent and a hard brush. As well as removing dirt, this will remove loose paint, priming it for a new coat. Pick up rubbish, get the powerhouse out (if you have one) and tackle that paving or tarmac. A good scrub and clean will bring it back to its former beauty.
A touch of paint
Whether you opt to do it yourself, or hire someone, a coat of paint on fences works wonders. This season, we’re seeing interior design trends in Northern Irelandsway from traditional brown hues, in favour of a lighter offering. Greys, blues and greens are proving popular and are a great way to add some vibrancy to your garden. Just don’t go for anything too controversial or risk strange looks from your neighbours.
Flower power
A trip to the garden centre is in order here. Flowers have real power in their ability to brighten up an area. Whether you choose to refill flower beds with new blooms, or plant pots, hanging baskets and window boxes, don’t be afraid to experiment with different plants and flowers to find something you love and which works for your area.
Refurbish furniture
Don’t forget that your furniture will need a little TLC too. It’s likely to have gathered a bit of dust, dirt and grime. A wire brush and some cleaning fluid should do the trick. Sand it down and add a coat of paint if needed. Give any cushions a wash or buy new ones if you fancy a change. Or, why not have some made?
There’s nothing worse than deciding to have an impromptu barbeque, opening it to discover it needs cleaned, so don’t forget to tackle it too.
Add some accessories
Our interior designers in Belfast know that adding some personal flair to your garden is the perfect way to finish it off. With changing interior design trends being seen across Northern Ireland, more emphasis has been placed on garden style in recent years, so we’re pleased to see that there’s a wide range of finishing touches available. From simple fairy lights, to decadent lanterns, candles lighting up walkways and pretty pots, getting creative in the garden has never been easier.
