TOP INTERIOR DESIGN TIPS TO STYLE A COLOURED SOFA

Jonathan Ryan Forde • Feb 19, 2019

In recent years, when it comes to home furnishings, one of the biggest evolvements has been the sofa. No longer plain and practical, clients are opting to infuse a pop of colour into their living rooms in the form of their settees, and here at Home and Contract Design, our interior designers couldn’t be happier about it.

While many make the decision to purchase a coloured sofa, they worry that it will limit their design options for the rest of the room, but thankfully, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Here, we share our top interior design Belfast tips to style a coloured sofa.

Blush pink with black and white

While pink may air on the girlie side, pair it with black and white to to give the hue a harder edge. Fill your home interior design with monochrome accessories in the form of soft furnishings or go boho with black and white geometric patterns for the perfect finish.

Blush pink with emerald green

One of last year’s biggest interior design trends was the pairing of powder pink with emerald green and it looks like the colour combo isn’t going away anytime soon. Green is such a gorgeous colour and can be introduced into your living room in a range of ways. Consider setting your pink sofa against a deep green wall, or opt for patterned wallpaper for a chic approach. To really up the ante, add in plenty of potted plants and watch your design vision come to life.

Yellow and grey

Our home should be where we are happiest so we definitely agree with adding cheery pops of colour throughout. Yellow and grey have long been a great colour pairing, so it won’t come as a surprise that a yellow sofa works wonders with greys walls.

Yellow and navy

Presenting as opposite colours on the colour wheel, it’s undeniable that yellow and navy are perfect partners. The duo regularly present together in nature, so take inspiration by adding soft furnishings in bold floral prints for an undeniably summery scheme. If you opt to keep your walls white, you can add even more of the hue through your choice of finishing touches. For a more dramatic approach, paint your walls dark navy.

Pink and purple

Berry pink definitely offers warmth to a room and looks great paired with other jewel tones. Look to soft furnishings in emeralds, sapphire and amethyst tones to perfectly complement your choice. For a chic finish, choose dark navy or grey walls to allow your sofa to take centre stage.
