USING PANTONE'S COLOUR OF THE YEAR IN YOUR HOME'S INTERIOR DESIGN

In the interior design world, no one could quite believe it when Pantone named its Colour of the Year for 2018, Ultra Violet. Following last year’s subdued Greenery, the colour purple is an altogether different story. It’s bold, it’s bright, it’s a little scary and here at Home and Contract Design in Northern Ireland … we love it!

Speaking about the decision to name Ultra Violet the Colour of the Year, Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Colour Institute said: “We are living in a time that requires inventiveness and imagination. It is this kind of creative inspiration that is indigenous to PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet, a blue-based purple that takes our awareness and potential to a higher level. From exploring new technologies and the greater galaxy, to artistic expression and spiritual reflection, intuitive Ultra Violet lights the way to what is yet to come.”

Just because Pantone has named it its Colour of the Year, doesn’t mean you need to immediately change your entire home, but if you are considering decorating this year, the hue is definitely worth considering.

With the arrival of spring in just a few days, we’re sure to see it everywhere. From runways to high streets, on our walls and cushions, there’s no getting away from Ultra Violet this year.

So if you’re ready to welcome a strong force of colour into your home interior design in Belfast, here’s how to use it.

Walls of wonder

There's something undeniably opulent about Ultra Violet, with the jewel tone easily adding regalness to any room. For a strong statement, go bold by painting the walls, ceiling and even the skirtings purple. If that's too much for you, make a feature of it. Our interior designersare already using the colour in both our home interior design and our commercial interior design projects. Choose a back wall that's in the line of sight to perfect this look.

Coordinating colours

The thing about purple is that it pairs perfectly with a wide range of colours. When choosing your perfect match, look to jewel tones for inspiration. Opt for strong hues such as teals, picks and rich blues, which will continue the feeling of luxe. Complete the look with furnishings in chromes for the perfect contrast of old and new.

Sumptuous soft furnishings

When it comes to your soft furnishings, Ultra Violet is the perfect choice. For fabric choices, enhance the hue's richness further by choosing fabrics such as silk or velvet. These rich textures will add another dimension to your room and really allow your colour choice to pop.

Alluring accessories

If the thought of Ultra Violet is appealing, yet a little scary, its use in a more subtle way is also welcomed. Rather than using it from floor to ceiling, or pairing it with other bold hues, use it as an accent colour throughout your interior design projects. Wether it's a single sofa, an armchair, or even just a footstool, its solo use can be equally as striking. Or, if that's still too much, look to accessories for guidance instead.
